Meet the Counselors
David and Rebekah Brown started their Biblical counseling journey with a focus to help fulfill a need within the church community. As they grew in faith, knowledge, and spoke with others, the revelation of sound counseling found on Biblical principles became more evident. After completing their course, the Brown Biblical Counseling Ministry was born. David and Rebekah are dedicated to God’s Word and counseling in accordance to just that. They believe that God’s Word is Sufficient, and holds everything we need containing to life and Godliness (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Peter 1:3.)
They counsel in accordance to their church’s statements of faith which can be found via the church’s website. Though interpretation may differ between churches and individuals, they are able to counsel and partner with all walks of life and denominations. James 1:19 states, “Let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger,” ESV, and they are here to do that just for you.

David Brown
David was born in Kansas City, Missouri and was a healthy baby. From his birth, his mom had him in church. At age 15-months, he came down with a disease called Kawasaki and it gave him glaucoma. Born into a single parent household, David grew in faith as his vision declined. Age 6, his vision started decreasing in his right eye, and his left eye was already gone in vision when he was 3. It decreased gradually over a 7 year span, and by age 13, David was near totally blind. This loss of vision, plus a heavy load of life events, was weighing on him massively. Not seeing any way forward, he attempted to end his own life. However, by God’s grace, he was brought through that dark time and he started looking forward.
David dove into the Bible. He started reading it cover to cover just searching for answers. He started seeking for the answer to the question: “who God is?” As he grew in faith, the need for discipleship and counseling started to arise in him. However, he wasn’t receiving much due to his blindness and how his church at that time viewed disabilities. David was a part of the ministry at that church, and yet felt like an outsider. But he continued to read, studied, and learned.
Age 19, David moved to Chula Vista to train full-time in the sport of Track and Field. He has had the honor to represent his country in 3 Paralympic Games, he obtained 1 Paralympic gold medal, held 2 world records within his classification, 2 world champs gold medals, 2 silver world champs medals, 2 gold Para Pan American games gold medals, one bronze World Champs medal, and 1 bronze Para Pan American medal. He also went 5 years undefeated on the international circuit and his slogan is Running4HISGlory. During this period, David continued his search. His focus was Luke 11:9: "And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you," as well as Jeremiah 29:13: "You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart." In August 2015, David attended an English service that just started at a Spanish church and was drawn to the teaching. He grew close to the pastor and his family and there he was starting to receive guidance, and answers to the questions he was having. His views were tested in many ways, and November 15, 2018, he had encountered The Truth in a way that shook him to the core.
After being broken, God started building him back up again. He always had a desire to go into counseling but never knew what it was called. After much research, he found a seminary online that offers Biblical counseling as a masters and doctorate program so he enrolled. New student class of 2020 at Southern California Seminary! He went forward with the goal to obtain a doctorate in counseling and a masters in apologetics and philosophy. However, the accessibility limitations and help from the seminary hindered him from being successful and he had to stop. Though frustrations and limitations hit hard, he didn’t allow them to deter him from finding a way to obtain his counseling certification.
He found the Association of Biblical Counselors(ABC) online and contacted them instantly about their accessibility. After learning how their courses were conducted, and how accessible it was. Him and his wife Rebekah both enrolled eager to learn. After finishing their course, Brown Biblical counseling was born.
David and Rebekah are two individuals that have hearts for service and by God’s grace, continuing in the faith.
Rebekah Brown
Rebekah was born in Newport Beach, California, but moved with her family at the age of one to Las Vegas, Nevada. She was blessed to be raised in a Christian home and was homeschooled by her parents along with her 2 siblings. Her dad is a Pastor and a missionary serving the Lord full time for the past 30 years. She learned about the Gospel, biblical principles and was saved at a young age. She traveled and took part in evangelistic trips with her family to bring the Gospel of Jesus to the world.
At 19 years old, Rebekah was invited to move out to the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Center to live and train as a full-time archer. Archery was a big aspect in Rebekah's life, and she was thrilled at the opportunity to continue her dreams of competing at the Olympic Games. Unfortunately, many different injuries plagued her, to the point where she almost decided to quit the sport she loves. But by the grace of God, she was able to push through and continues to compete to this day, albeit no longer as a professional athlete.
Rebekah met her husband David at the training center, and they both are devout members of their church. With a heart to serve, Rebekah set out on a journey to become a Biblical Counselor. She had always been interested in helping others physically, mentally, and spiritually, but didn't know how to go about it until she learned about the Association of Biblical Counselors (ABC).
Studying and learning a lot, both Rebekah and David graduated from their Level 1 Certification courses at ABC together.
Now, David and Rebekah are very active members at their home church of Mercy and Grace located in National City. David is a part of the worship team, where he either plays the drums, the piano, sings, or helps with the sound system. Rebekah also helps with the sound system as well as with lyrics for the service. David is one of the teaching elders. He also helps lead communion on Sundays when called upon. Rebekah is an active member within the women’s ministry, and they both are the youth leaders at the church and are the head of the biblical counseling ministry. David and Rebekah are two individuals that have hearts for service and by God’s grace, continuing in the faith.
